Is Microsoft still supporting Vista for Security Essentials? MSE has stopped updating. It will not find and download the virus definitions. As windows Vista has a long way to go yet (as far as I am concerned) I shall have to find another virus checker!
What is Microsoft Security Essentials? Microsoft Security Essentials reached end of service on January 14, 2020 and is no longer available as a download. Microsoft will continue to release signature updates (including engine) to service systems currently running Microsoft Security Essentials untill 2023.
What It Means When Microsoft Stops Supporting Your Version ? No More Security Updates. When Microsoft stops supporting a version of Windows, Microsoft stops issuing security updates for that operating system. For example, Windows Vista and Windows XP no longer receive security updates, even if substantial security holes are found in them. On January 14, 2020, the same will be true for Windows 7.
While Microsoft will keep updating Microsoft Security Essentials, you should either replace that with something stronger or add extra protection by using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
